Wydad AC take firm stand on Lorch move as ‘substantial’ offer surface

Wydad AC head coach Amine Benhachem has reportedly taken a firm stand against the sale of Thembinkosi Lorch, despite a “substantial” offer from Libyan side Al-Ittihad.

The South African playmaker has become the subject of intense transfer speculation during the January window. Reports suggest that Al-Ittihad—who are already on the verge of landing Lorch’s teammate Stephane Aziz Ki—have turned their sights on the former Mamelodi Sundowns star.

Hands off Lorch

According to Moroccan outlet Elbotola Sport, Benhachem has communicated to the Wydad board that the Bafana Bafana international is “untouchable.” The coach views the 32-year-old as a pillar of his tactical setup and is unwilling to lose two key attackers to the same club in a single window.

Lorch has been in scintillating form since making his move to the “Red Castle” permanent in August 2025. His output this season speaks for itself with five goals and four assists in 11 appearances in all competitions

The Al-Ittihad Factor

The interest from Libya is backed by significant financial muscle. Africa Foot reports that Al-Ittihad is prepared to pay a lucrative transfer fee to lure the South African to Tripoli. However, with Wydad currently chasing the Botola Pro 1 title and competing in the CAF Confederation Cup, the sporting objectives are currently outweighing the financial gain.

Wydad supporters will be holding their breath as the January transfer window enters its final week. While the club has remained firm so far, the pressure of a high-value USD offer can often change the narrative in African football.

For now, Benhachem has closed the door, insisting that the “Lorch show” continues in Casablanca.
