Wydad Casablanca close to parting ways with coach Rulani Mokwena

Wydad Casablanca is preparing to move on from Rulani Mokwena. According to local sources, the Casablanca club's management has reached a verbal agreement with the South African coach for an amicable separation, without payment of the release clause estimated at nearly 10 million dirhams ($1,079,000).

This decision comes after a series of disappointing results that have distanced Wydad from its ambitions, notably qualification for the CAF Champions League. The draw against Olympique Safi on Wednesday, the sixth consecutive in the league, precipitated discussions surrounding Mokwena's early departure initially planned for the end of the season.

Arriving at the start of the season with the goal of restoring the club to its former glory and playing a leading role, Mokwena has never managed to establish a positive dynamic. The premature elimination from the Coupe du Trône has also weakened his position, fueling criticism from both management and fans.

The split, expected to be made official in the coming hours, is intended to inject new momentum into the group at the end of the season and attempt to salvage what's essential in a now complicated race for the podium and qualification for next season's CAF Champions League.
