Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi believes that the best team won the Kariakoo derby following their 2-0 Mainland Premier League success against rivals Simba SC at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens only needed a draw to be crowned champions for the fourth straight season, and second-half goals from Pacôme Zouzoua and Clement Mzize condemned their bitter rivals to defeat.
“I am very happy because we fought for six months for this moment. Before the game, I told the players we have 90 minutes to be very strong, and at half-time I told them again. Now you have 45 minutes, and you will be champions. We have won, bravo for my players,” Hamdi told Pan-Africa Football.
“I am very happy because yesterday we made one plan: to beat Simba and win the title. I am also very happy because we were tactically very good today. So that is a good day for me, and I dedicate the championship to all the people who like and follow Yanga. I am very proud to be the coach of Yanga.
“Believe me, we are very tired now because we work very hard, nobody knows that. But believe me, we put in hard work. We never stopped working hard, tactically, technically, and physically. Today you have seen the game, they played very well, and we are champions.”
Asked whether he will be at Yanga next season, Hamdi replied: “The future is not in my hands, it is in the hands of the club, I am here and we will see what happens. But today I am very happy for everyone who loves Yanga, I really wanted to win something with them, and today we have won the title.”
The win enabled Yanga to retain the league title as they finished top of the 16-team league table with 82 points, while Simba came second with 78 points.
