Young Africans (Yanga) did not have it easy on Thursday against Tanzania Prisons but a late goal from Depú was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for the reigning NBC Premier League champions.

The Angolan was in the perfect place to tap in the rebound after Allan Okello’s free kick was spilled in front of goal by Prisons goalkeeper Mussa Mbisa. It was not a routine victory for the reigning champions, who did just enough to secure all three points at the Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
The Citizens are now seven points clear at the top of the table as they continue their domination of all domestic competitions in Tanzanian football. Yanga have already claimed the country’s Federation Cup trophy with a victory over rivals Simba earlier this season and now have a major advantage in the league with zero defeats across all domestic cup and league matches.
Simba are eight points back with a game in hand in 4th place while Azam FC are also eight points. Second place JKT Tanzania are seven points off the pace but have played four more matches than the leaders.
After playing to a 0-0 draw with Simba in the Kariakoo Derby at the beginning of the month, the champions will now face another Dar es Salaam rival on Sunday when they clash with Azam at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
