Yoane Wissa: Huge injury blow keeps Congolese striker away for several weeks

Newcastle United have been dealt an early setback as new signing Yoane Wissa is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury while on international duty with DR Congo.

The forward picked up the knock during Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Senegal and, according to Sky Sports, is expected to be out of action for at least four to five weeks. His absence means he will miss around six upcoming fixtures for Eddie Howe’s side.

Yoane Wissa, who joined Newcastle from Brentford in the final hours of the summer transfer window in a £55 million move, has yet to make his debut for the Magpies. His injury delays what was anticipated to be a fresh attacking option for the club this season.

The 29-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign with Brentford last term, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists across 39 appearances in all competitions.
