Speaking to the press earlier on Friday, Howe said Wissa is out of the match due to injury. “Unfortunately he won’t make this game. I saw him for the first time yesterday and he’s feeling the effects of the injury sustained just before he came off (while on international duty). We are going to have to see how he is.”
The English coach added that he had only a brief time seeing Wissa, as the striker was away on international duty with DR Congo. “We only saw him for the first time yesterday,” explained Howe.
Wissa signed for Newcastle in a transfer worth €67 million from Brentford. The striker tried to force the move during the transfer window. He started both of DR Congo’s World Cup qualifying matches against South Sudan and Senegal, where he scored in both games.
