Young Africans remain winless from three matches after Mtibwa draw

Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans remained winless from their last three league matches following a 1-1 draw against Mtibwa Sugar on Saturday.

Since their 1-0 victory against Tanzania Prisons, the Citizens have now gone ahead to draw their last three fixtures. The draw started in the derby against Azam FC which ended 0-0, before dropping points against in a 0-0 draw against TRA United.

Young Africans were hoping to bounce back against the Sugar Millers but it was not the case as the game ended 1-1. Against the Sugar Millers, Young Africans started the game with a lot of urgency but they lacked the cutting edge in front of the goal.

Allan Okello produced opener for Yanga

Uganda midfielder Allan Okello was the star man of the half, but he missed a host of chances to put the champions ahead. However, in the 23rd minute, Okello was involved as Yanga took the lead.

A move initiated by Kenyan midfielder Duke Abuya found Okello outside the box, and former Vipers SC star unleashed a left-footed effort which was punched back to play.

The rebound fell to Emmanuel Mwaneng, who squared it back for Pacome Zouzoua to finish off and give Yanga the lead. Both sides went into the half-time break tied at 1-1.

Mtibwa Sugar never gave up at the start of the second period as they continued to press for the equalizer. However, the Sugar Millers were forced to wait until in the 91st minute to level the scores.

Young Africans still top of the table

A free-kick from outside the area was punched out for a corner. From the corner kick, Ismail Aidan Mhesa curled it into the net without touching any player.

The three straight draws have now seen Yanga remain with 11 wins from 16 matches. However, they kept their top spot with 38 points, while Azam FC are second with 29 points.

However, Azam could find themselves in third-place before the league breaks for the FIFA international break as Simba have a game against TRA United on Sunday.
