Young Africans head coach Pedro Goncalves has revealed their intentions to keep the top position in the Mainland Premier League table following their emphatic 5-0 win against JKT Tanzania on Wednesday.
The Citizens needed goals from Mohamed Hussein, Laurindo ‘Depu’ Aurelio, Yahya Mudathir, Prince Dube and Shekhani Khamis to register their ninth victory of the campaign and move top of the log.

Young Africans are now joint top with Tanzania Prisons on 28 points. Yanga have scured nine wins, one draw, and they are yet to lose a game. Speaking afterwards, the former Angola national team coach praised the quality of his players.
“I feel good for sure, five goals and on top of the table, we were cut for that, the boys delivered everything, and as I said before the game, we are taking it a game at a time,” Goncalves told Pan-Africa Football.
“It is fantastic because we only played a few hours after the last match, and the rules don’t state the same, they state 70 hours before the next game, but anyway, we are playing very intense matches. The last one against Namungo, and today’s game, and even Sunday.
“We are crossing high density matches, but the boys delivered everything, they are understanding, and they are always wanting to improve more and more our performances.”
On winning 5-0, he said: “Yes, we deserved to win 5-0, but the match was very intense, and perhaps it doesn’t show absolutely the difference between the two teams, but I think we deserved that win, for sure.
“I think it doesn’t matter about the formation, what matters is our dynamics, because this is more of what I think about. If we play any pattern it depends on how we press, how we defend, and what the boys are understanding.”
On being on top of the table, he said: “We want to be on top as long as we can. We will next face our biggest rivals, and everyone will put their best efforts to help the team, but now we need to recover, we know we don’t have too much time to prepare, but we will be ready.”
Young Africans will return to league action with a Kariakoo derby fixture against rivals Simba SC on Sunday.
