As Dar es Salaam club Young Africans work to retain their NBC Premier League title, the club are also looking to sort out their squad for next season and securing the services of Zambian playmaker Clatous Chama is high on the list.

The experienced attacking midfielder signed a one-year contract with Yanga before the 2024-25 season to complete a surprise move from rivals Simba SC. With rumors spreading of a potential return to the Kariakoo ward with the Reds, Yanga have made it a priority to keep Chama from turning up in enemy colors.

“We are in the final stage of negotiations. While we have not yet signed a new contract, the discussions are going well and we are on good terms…We expect to finalise the deal soon after his national team duty,” a source revealed to Tanzanian outlet The Citizen.

Between NBC Premier League play and the CAF Champions League, Chama accumulated six goals and two assists in 28 appearances. The 33-year-old is poised to take on a similar or even bigger role potentially next season if re-signed following the departure of forward Stephane Aziz Ki to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.

Yanga are currently four points ahead of Simba in the NBC Premier League title race with only three games left to play. The Citizens will face their rivals in a title deciding clash on June 15 after the FIFA window with three games in seven days to conclude the domestic league season. Yanga is also likely to face Simba in the final of the Federation Cup if the Reds can defeat Singida Black Stars in the semifinals.
