Youssef El Arabi rescues Nantes with late derby strike against Rennes

Veteran Morocco striker Youssef El Arabi helped Nantes salvage a point against Stade Rennais in the Breton Derby. The 38-year-old striker joined Nantes in a surprising move at the start of the season.

Prior to the derby, El Arabi had only amassed 11 minutes in total across two Ligue 1 games. In the week five encounter, El Arabi was brought on while Rennais maintained a 2-1 lead. The veteran striker struck the equalizer deep into stoppage time to send the home fans into a frenzy. El Arabi previously turned out for clubs in France, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Qatar, and Cyprus. He is well known for his time in Qatar with Al Duhail and Greek giants Olympiacos.

Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu provided an assist for Esteban Lepaul as Habib Baye’s charges took a 2-0 lead before Rennes crumbled at the death.

Elsewhere, Nigerian striker Terem Moffi scored his second goal of the season in OGC Nice’s 4-1 heavy defeat to Brest. Moffi pulled one back for Nice before the first interval, but the day ended in a bad way for the Allianz Riviera side as they were put to the sword by Brest away.
