OGC Nice defender Youssouf Ndayishimiye has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), ending his season. The French Ligue 1 club confirmed that Ndayishimiye is injured and will need at least several months to recover.
Nice coach Franck Haise received the devastating news with sadness, as the Burundi international is a key member of the squad in their push for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. The 26-year-old defender tore his ACL during Wednesday's training session after a collision. He had scored the third goal with a header in a 3-1 win over champions Paris Saint-Germain last week.
Nice will be without both of their center backs, as Egyptian defender Mohamed Abdelmonem similarly tore his ACL on Friday, April 25. Ndayishimiye was voted Nice's Player of the Month in March. He made 23 league appearances and scored three goals.
