Zamalek return to league action with interesting 2–0 win over Petrojet

Zamalek made a successful return to the Nile Egyptian League with a 2–0 victory over Petrojet on Wednesday, in a match played at Cairo International Stadium as part of Round 16 of the competition.

The White Knights opened the scoring in the 21st minute following a long ball from Nasser Mansi behind Petrojet’s defense. Oday Dabbagh latched onto the pass, fired a shot that goalkeeper Omar Salah initially saved, but the rebound fell to Dabbagh, who slotted the ball into the net to make it 1–0.

Zamalek doubled their advantage in the 39th minute after the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Dabbagh inside the box in the 36th minute. Hossam Abdelmaguid stepped up and converted the spot-kick calmly, giving his side a two-goal cushion before halftime.

Early in the second half, Adam Kaied nearly added a third with a moment of brilliance in the 50th minute, producing a stunning back-heel finish, but his effort crashed against the crossbar before Petrojet’s defense cleared the danger.

With this victory, Zamalek raised their tally to 25 points, breaking into the top four and occupying fourth place in the league standings, just one point behind Al Ahly in third. Petrojet, meanwhile, remain 10th with 19 points.
