Egyptian giants Zamalek have officially decided to oppose the decision of the Appeals Committee of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and to urgently file a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over Thursday's decision regarding the Cairo Derby that was not played in late March.

Al Ahly did not show up for the match after declaring their disapproval of the appointment of Egyptian match officials, a decision which resulted in a 3-0 forfeit victory for Zamalek.

However, Zamalek argue that a proper ruling based on the regulations requires a deduction of three points from Al Ahly in addition to the three points awarded to Zamalek following the 3-0 forfeit victory.

The decision by Zamalek’s Board of Directors comes after the ruling issued today, Thursday, by the Appeals Committee of the EFA regarding the club’s appeal against the decision of the Clubs Association Board to amend the previous sanctions related to the Cairo Derby match.

Zamalek described this ruling as a blatant violation of all principles of justice, equality, fairness, and sporting integrity.

The outcome of the decision could have massive implications for the title race in the Egyptian Nile League. Al Ahly currently lead closest contenders Pyramids FC by two points with only two matchdays remaining in the league, making a further three-point deduction potentially deadly to Ahly's title hopes.
