Zamalek SC have officially announced the appointment of Moatamed Gamal, the club’s former head coach, as interim manager of the first football team.
The decision comes after Ahmed Abdel Raouf submitted his resignation and declined to continue in his role as head coach. Zamalek were left without a permanent manager following that decision.
Earlier, the club had assigned Tamer Abdel Hamid and Hazem Emam to lead the team on a temporary basis during the League Cup match against Al Ittihad Alexandria, a game which ended in a 3-0 defeat for Zamalek who played the game with the youth players in the fourth round of the group stage.
Following the loss, Zamalek’s board of directors, in coordination with sporting director John Edward, decided to appoint Moatamed Gamal as interim head coach. He will be assisted by former Zamalek player Ibrahim Salah.
The new technical staff began their duties on Wednesday afternoon, with their first training session was scheduled at 12:30 PM GMT at the Military College Stadium.
Meanwhile, Zamalek confirmed that negotiations are ongoing with a foreign head coach to take over permanently. The club stated that an official announcement will be made once an agreement is reached.
Moataz Gamal will be in charge of the team for the white castle’s upcoming League Cup clash against ZED FC, scheduled for January 11, in the sixth round of the group stage.
