
Zamalek SC has officially appointed Portuguese tactician José Peseiro as the team’s new head coach until the end of next season.
The club also confirmed the departure of Christian Gross, the Swiss coach who was relieved of his duties. Gross was appointed as Zamalek’s head coach in December 2024 and led the team in 13 matches across all competitions, collecting 8 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses while qualifying the Cairo club to the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
José Peseiro’s recent career
Peseiro’s most recent coaching role was with the Nigerian national team from May 2022 to February 2024. His record with Nigeria includes:

AFCON 2023 Finalist: Led Nigeria to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, where they finished as runners-up after losing to hosts Ivory Coast 2-1.
This is not Peseiro’s first experience in Egyptian football. He previously managed Al Ahly from October 2015 to January 2016 but left after a short period after receiving an offer from FC Porto in Portugal.

Peseiro has already taken charge of his first training session with Zamalek as the team prepares for their next Nile Egyptian League match against Petrojet. His first assignment will be in the Nile League on Sunday when Zamalek faces Petrojet. The White Castle are currently third place on 26 points, four points behind leaders Pyramids FC.
