Zamalek bounce back with emphatic win over Al Masry

Zamalek produced a commanding performance to see off Al Masry 3-0 at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria in the sixth round of the 2025-2026 Nile Egyptian League.

The victory was a timely response after the White Knights’ setback against Wadi Degla the previous round, and it handed Al Masry their first defeat of the season following an unbeaten run of three wins and two draws.

Al Masry started brightly, testing goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhi in the opening minute through a fierce strike from Algerian midfielder Daghmoum. Just three minutes later, Daghmoum threatened again with a header, only for the ball to ricochet off a teammate. Zamalek soon found their rhythm, with Aydi El Dabbagh denied by goalkeeper Essam Tharwat in the 8th minute, while Salah Mohsen wasted a golden chance at the other end after rounding Sobhi but hesitating to shoot.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 30th minute. A cross from Nasser Maher caused chaos in Al Masry’s box, and El Dabbagh pounced to fire home his first goal for the club. Juan Bezzera almost doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, his strike whistling just wide.

After the interval, Zamalek tightened their grip. In the 64th minute, Omar Gaber finished clinically from a superb Bezzera assist to make it 2-0.

Substitute Amr Nasser was denied by Tharwat’s reflexes with a close-range header, but the forward won a penalty in the 78th minute after being brought down by Mohamed Hachem, who received a second yellow card and was dismissed.

Veteran playmaker Abdallah El Said stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 90th minute, sealing a deserved 3-0 triumph for Zamalek.

The result restores momentum for the Cairo giants and sends them top of the league table with 13 points, while Al Masry must regroup after their first setback of the campaign which kept them on 10 points.
