Zamalek coach Christian Gross admitted that Friday's match against Pyramids in the Egyptian Nile League was a difficult one.
Zamalek fell to a 3-0 defeat to Pyramids in Round 11 of the league.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Swiss head coach said:
"We were the better side in the first half and had the opportunity to take the lead. In the second half, the team pushed forward aggressively and lost organization after Pyramids scored their first goal. Not everything was negative, but in the end, we lost this match. We still have more games ahead, and we will fight to win them."
He continued:
"In the second half, we conceded two goals from counterattacks and lost possession in dangerous areas. We need to be stronger in attack, with more commitment and determination to score and secure victories."
Gross also commented on Ahmed Sayed "Zizo", acknowledging his importance to the team despite a below-par performance:
"Zizo is a very important player for the team but he wasn’t at his best today. It’s difficult to replace a player of his quality, even if he’s not delivering the expected performance."
Regarding the selection of Seifeddine Jaziri in the starting eleven, Gross explained:
"I decide who plays based on the player's readiness. Nasser Mansi is performing well."
Gross addressed the injury of Abdallah El Said, expressing concern:
"I hope his injury is not serious. We lost an experienced and very important player for Zamalek and his absence affected the team. However, I believe the substitutes who played did their part."
Looking ahead, he spoke about the coming period facing Zamalek:
"We have many matches coming up and I don’t see this as an easy period for us. Since I took charge, I have relied on experienced players while closely monitoring all squad members. The club is working on strengthening the squad during this period."
Gross concluded:
"Zamalek aims to win every match. We need to return to victories starting from the next game."
Following this result, Zamalek drop to third place in the Egyptian Nile League standings with 20 points, level with Al Ahly, who move up to second place on goal difference.
