Zamalek crowned Egypt Cup champions after dramatic penalty shootout win over Pyramids

Zamalek SC saved their season in dramatic fashion, winning the 2025 Egypt Cup with a thrilling 8-7 penalty shootout victory over Pyramids FC after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time at Cairo International Stadium.



The cup triumph marks Zamalek’s 29th Egypt Cup title, and their second trophy of the season, both won through penalty shootouts. Earlier in the campaign, Zamalek lifted the CAF Super Cup after defeating Al Ahly on penalties.


Ahmed Atef Opens, Nasser Mansi Equalizes


Pyramids took the lead in the 29th minute when Ahmed Atef Kotta headed in a long ball from Walid El Karti. Zamalek responded in the 78th minute as Nasser Mansi latched onto a deep pass from Ahmed Fattouh, breaking free to slot the ball past the keeper and make it 1-1.


Despite chances on both sides, the score remained level through extra time, setting the stage for a dramatic shootout.


Penalty Shootout Drama


The penalty shootout delivered high drama:


  • Mostafa Fathi missed Pyramids' second penalty, giving Zamalek an early advantage.


  • Mostafa Shalaby could have sealed the win with Zamalek’s fifth penalty, but Sherif Ekramy produced a vital save.


  • Ahmed Samy missed Pyramids’ seventh penalty, only for Ekramy to deny Nasser Mansi again.


  • The decisive moment came when Ali Gabr missed Pyramids’ tenth penalty. Zamalek legend Shikabala stepped up and converted the winner, sending Zamalek fans into celebration.


A Season Saved for Zamalek


After a turbulent campaign, Zamalek have ended their season with two major trophies. While they fell short in the Nile Egyptian League, their success in Egypt Cup has provided a strong finish and a reason to celebrate.
