Zamalek bounced back to claim an important 2-1 win against Modern Sport in the third round of the Nile Egyptian League, moving up to second place in the standings.

The Whites wasted little time in taking the lead as Brazilian winger Juan Alvina opened the scoring in the 12th minute. The skillful attacker dazzled the crowd with a fine dribble past his marker before firing into the net, writing a new chapter in his blossoming story with the Zamalek fans.

Zamalek doubled their advantage shortly after the break. In the 48th minute, Chico Banza received a pass from Alvina, turned around, and struck a shot from inside the box. Former Egypt international goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal failed to hold on, and the ball slipped through his hands into the net.

Modern Sport pulled one back later on in unusual fashion. A deflected ball off a Zamalek defender forced the goalkeeper into action, but in his attempt to clear, he inadvertently bundled it into his own net, giving the visitors hope in the 58th minute at Suez Canal Authority Stadium.

Despite the setback, Zamalek held firm to secure all three points. The victory lifts their tally to 7 points, placing them second behind league leaders Al Masry, who are ahead only on goal difference. Modern Sport remain on 4 points in ninth place.
