Zamalek stretch Nile League win streak to four matches

Zamalek joined rivals Al Ahly and Pyramids FC as winners from Wednesday in the Egyptian Nile League following a narrow 1-0 victory over Smouha.

Fan favorite Nasser Mansy received a pass from Brazilian attacker Juan Alvina and fired in the only goal of the match in the 77th minute. The forward’s fourth goal in all competitions was enough in a match where the visitors from Alexandria created few opportunities.

The 14-time Egyptian club champions remain level with Pyramids on 31 points, one ahead of Al Ahly and four behind leaders Ceramica Cleopatra who have played one more match. Earlier on Wednesday, Ahly defeated Ismaily while Pyramids edged ENPPI 2-1 courtesy of two goals from Nasser Maher.

In the other later match of the day, Al Masry were held to a 1-1 draw by Wadi Degla. Omar El Saaiy’s goal early in the second half was cancelled out by Danijel Miškić, who converted from the penalty spot for his first goal in the Wadi Degla shirt.
