The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) remains confident of a strong performance at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August, despite the team’s early exit from the COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
The Chipolopolo failed to progress from Group D after a poor start, suffering an opening 1-0 loss to Comoros. In their second and final group match, they drew 3-3 with Botswana, who also bowed out of the tournament.
According to FAZ executive committee member Chisenga Pule, Zambia’s expectations remain high with focus on a good performance in August’s CHAN in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
“Some CHAN players aren’t here, but the few that are here will give us a chance to see who might combine with those back home when we select the final team,” said Pule, as quoted by Bola News.
“It is a good experience for the new players, and it also gives them a platform to know what happens at an international level, so it will not be a culture shock when they go to CHAN. So, we might have a good outing.”
The Chipolopolo have been drawn in Group A of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside co-host Kenya, Morocco, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
