Zambia’s Mines United FC have hired Christopher Tembo as their new head coach ahead of their debut in the 2025/26 FAZ/ MTN Super League.
A statement from the club says Tembo has taken over the mantle from Geoffrey Hamakwenda, who has left on a mutual separation:
“The club would like to thank coach Hamakwenda for his service and massive contribution and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors,” the statement reads.
“As a debut team in the ZPL Super League, we are confident that coach Tembo’s experience and leadership will be key in guiding the team forward.”
The new coach brings with him a wealth of experience gained from coaching in Zambia and Eswatini. His last job was in the kingdom nation where he steered Malanti Chiefs from the second tier league to the Eswatini Premier Soccer League in the just-ended season.
Tembo precariously managed Manzini Sundowns in Eswatini.
Based on this rich resume, Mines chairman Mathew Mohan and CEO Micheal Musonda hope the new trainer will keep the rookies afloat in the top tier league.
