Resurgent Kabwe Warriors stunned 10-man Indeni FC 3-1 at Godfrey Chitalu Stadium on Sunday afternoon, to displace Zesco United from the MTN Super League summit in Zambia.

Kabwe opened the scoring six minutes into the game when Charles Sichilima's long throw-in was deflected into the net by an Indeni defender.

With the wind in their sails, Kabwe increased their lead when Field Kandela headed the ball into the net after connecting Edward Tembo’s free-kick some 11 minutes later.

The hosts led comfortably 2-0 at break and when play resumed for the second half, the visitors pulled one back after three minutes after restart.

However, hopes of the strugglers’ comeback vanished as Francis Banda scored on the hour mark for Kabwe to take their tally to 40 points just like Zesco with the two teams separated by goal difference.

Indeni, the visitors, finished the game with 10 in-field men after Moffat Ngambi received marching orders for a reckless challenge on Gabriel Banda later in the game.

The 16th loss in 22 league games left Indeni stuck at the bottom of the 18-member log table with relegation looming unless they win most of their remaining 12 games.

On Saturday, Zesco United wasted a chance to go two points clear at the MTN Super League summit after dropping points in a one-all draw with Nchanga Rangers at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The frustrating draw leaves the nine-time champions one point ahead of Red Arrows who beat Lumwana Radiants 1-0 courtesy of Paul Katema’s strike and have now dropped to third place.

Zesco should be seeking to bounce back next weekend against giants Mufulira Wanderers.
