Zambia’s champions Power Dynamos FC have celebrated their admission into the African Club Association (ACA), describing the development as a milestone in the team’s history.
In a statement, Power Dynamos President Bennie Simukoko said their membership to the continental club governing body is a major step towards their growth in Zambia and beyond.
“As Zambian Premier League Champions, we believe that the association will promote unity and prove that African clubs are stronger when they work together by sharing experiences and advocating for the growth and professionalisation of the sport,” Simukoko said told the club’s website.
“Power Dynamos’ membership in the African Club Association is expected to enhance its continental profile and provide opportunities for greater engagement with leading clubs across Africa, as the ACA continues its drive to strengthen and uplift African football.”
ACA represents clubs across Africa to strengthen collaboration, protect their collective interests, and celebrate the rich legacy and achievements of African football.
Power Dynamos have joined in ACA other established teams such as African Stars of Namibia, Al Hilal SC (Sudan), AS Maniema Union and Saint Éloi Lupopo of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Atlético Petróleos de Luanda of Angola, Azam SC and Young Africans of Tanzania, Botswana’s Gaborone United, South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.
The Kitwe-based giants return to CAF Champions League action towards the end of the month to host Rivers United before traveling to Nigeria for the reverse group-stage fixture. Further meetings with Morocco’s Berkane FC and Pyramids FC of Egypt will follow in the first week of February.
The CAFCL group stage debutants Power Dynamos made a shaky start to the continental assignments. The Zambians lost 3-0 to hosts RS Berkane in Morocco on November 22.
Seven days later, the going became even tougher for Osward Mutapa’s side as they lost 1-0 to the reigning CAF Champions League winners, Pyramids FC.
The back-to-back defeats left the Zambian champions bottom of Group A. Matches for the pool will resume next month.
Now, Power Dynamos are making the most of the break from the continental matches to consolidate their place in the local MTN Super League assignments.
