Zambia retain COSAFA U-17 Women’s Championship title

Zambia’s Copper Princesses thrashed Malawi 3-0 to successfully defend the COSAFA U-17 Women’s Championship title in Namibia on Saturday.

First half goals from Ruth Mukoma, Natasha Kasema and Gift Marimba won the crown for the Zambians. The Copper Princesses were dominant in the final at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek to make it three titles.

The Zambians are the most successful team in the history of the tournament on par with Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa. The Copper Princesses have since sealed their place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Morocco from October 17 to 8 November this year.

The only consolation for Malawi was that they claimed the Fair Play Award. Earlier at the same venue, Mozambique bagged the bronze medal after beating Zimbabwe 3-2.
