Zambia’s men national team Chipolopolo will play Russia during the June FIFA Window in Moscow.
A statement from the Football Association of Zambia confirmed: “(FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that the Chipolopolo will play an international friendly match with Russia during the June FIFA Window in Moscow.
“FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says the two countries had drawn on their long-term friendship to organize an international friendly match.
"In May 2024, Russian Ambassador to Zambia Azim Yarakhmedov conferred with FAZ president on wide ranging football matters culminating into the proposed friendly match.
The match was initially touted as a commemoration of Zambia’s 60th Independence anniversary but will take place a year later.”
Speaking on the friendly Kamanga said: “I wish to confirm that FAZ has concluded agreements with the Russian Football Union to play an international friendly match in June in Moscow. The game will take place in Moscow, and the exact time and location of the match will be announced later.”
The Chipolopolo will be using the Russian assignment as part of preparations for the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. According to FAZ, both teams will field their strongest teams for the international assignment.
