Zambia will take every CHAN game as it comes – Mwanza

Zambia national team midfielder Kelvin Mwanza says preparations for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) have been going on well ahead of the tournament that kicks in East Africa from August 2 to 30.

Mwanza, who will be making his debut in the Chipolopolo set up, revealed that the team under coach Avram Grant was focused on taking it a game at a time.

“Preparations are going on so well. Everyone is pushing and we all know what is ahead of us,” he told FAZ Media. “There is no easy game but what matters is how you prepare, I think we have done well in preparation and we are good to go. We are going to take every game as it comes.”

On making the final CHAN squad, he said: “It is a pleasure that we do have senior players in the squad that have been with the Chipolopolo for a while now. We are learning from them. That keeps us going and motivated.

“To the fans, they have to be patient with us. We are going to do our level best and deliver the set target.”
Zambia will be making its fifth appearance at the CHAN with its best finish being the 2009 edition where the Chipolopolo minted bronze. Zambia’s previous appearances were in 2009, 2016, 2018 and 2020.

The Chipolopolo will commence their Group A race with a match against DR Congo on August 7 before engaging Angola three days later. The third tussle will see Zambia renew their rivalry with Morocco on August 14 before winding down their group games with Kenya three days later.
