Zambo Anguissa heads Serie A leaders Napoli to victory

André-Frank Zambo Anguissa helped Napoli maintain their pace at the top of the Serie A table on Tuesday with the match winner in a 1-0 victory at Lecce.

The midfielder rose up to flick a powerful header in from David Neres’ free kick service, giving Napoli the edge in a tight battle with their relegation candidate hosts. The winning goal arrived in the 69th minute in a match that could have gone much differently for the visitors.

While the Cameroon national team midfielder played his role by scoring for the second consecutive match, goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic was just as important. The Serbian shot stopper came up huge to save a penalty kick from Lecce’s Francesco Camarda early in the second half, setting the stage for a valuable three points earned away from home.

The 29-year-old continues to be a foundation of consistency and excellence with Napoli. He has four goals and an assist from nine Serie A matches this season after a career-best 2024-25 season that saw him provide six goals and four assists.

The reigning Serie A champions will look to strengthen their hold at the top of the table Saturday when they host Como.
