ZED FC booked their place in the semi-finals of the Egypt Cup after defeating Haras El Hodoud 4-2 on penalties, following a 1-1 draw after extra time in the quarter-final clash of the 2025-2026 season.
The match saw both sides continue their trend of thriving in shootouts. ZED had advanced to the quarter-finals by beating Al Masry 5-4 on penalties in the Round of 16, while Haras El Hodoud also progressed via a 5-4 shootout win over Smouha.
Haras El Hodoud broke the deadlock in the 69th minute through Mohamed Hamdy Zaki, who struck a low effort to put his side ahead.
However, ZED responded quickly. Just six minutes later, Mauritanian midfielder Maata Magassa capitalized on a costly defensive error, as a misplaced clearance fell in front of goal, allowing him to fire home the equalizer in the 75th minute.
With the score level at 1-1 after regular time and extra time, the tie was decided from the spot. ZED converted four penalties to Haras El Hodoud’s two, securing a place in the last four.
