Zedekiah Otieno: Tanzania Prisons part ways with Kenyan coach

Tanzania Prisons have confirmed parting ways with former Kenya national team coach Zedekiah Otieno following a string of poor results in the Mainland Premier League.

The decision was confirmed on Wednesday through a statement issued by the club’s chief executive officer, Godfrey Madegwa.

“The management of Tanzania Prisons Football Club wishes to inform the public that, by mutual agreement, it has reached a decision to part ways with the head coach, Zedekiah Otieno Evans Otieno,” read part of the statement.

“The management thanks Coach Otieno for his contribution and service during his time with the team and wishes him all the best in his future responsibilities.”

Otieno joined Prisons after leaving Gor Mahia

The former Kenyan Premier League record champions Gor Mahia coach joined Prisons on July 24, 2025, ahead of the 2025-26 season.

During his tenure, he oversaw 14 Mainland Premier League matches, recording three wins, three draws and eight defeats. The Mbeya-based side scored eight goals and conceded 16 under his guidance.

According to the Guardian, Prisons is moving closer to appointing Shadrack ‘Fuso’ Nsajigwa as Otieno’s replacement.

Tanzania Prisons currently sit 14th on the table with 12 points from 14 matches. With just three league victories this season, the side remains dangerously close to the relegation zone and risks slipping into the second tier if results do not improve.

What’s Next for Zedekiah Otieno After Tanzania Prisons Exit

Following his departure from Tanzania Prisons, Zedekiah Otieno is expected to assess his next move carefully. With vast experience in East African football, including his time with the Kenya national team, Otieno remains a respected figure in the region. He could attract interest from other Mainland Premier League sides or potentially return to Kenya for a new coaching challenge. Given his track record and tactical knowledge, a comeback opportunity may not be far away.
