Zimbabwe: Billiat nets brilliant brace for Scottland FC

Dropped once again from the Zimbabwe national team, winger Khama Billiat demonstrated permanence of his class with a brilliant brace for Scottland FC on Thursday afternoon.

Featuring the 35-year former Warriors star, the Castle Premier Soccer League (PSL) defending champions walked onto Gibbo Stadium amid creeping doubts on their credentials after starting the 2026 season with two straight draws against HardRock FC and Ngezi Platinum FC.

Scottland FC coach Norman Mapeza stuck to most of his trusted lieutenants, skipper Walter Musona lead comprising Terence Dzvukamanja and Billiat, a trio that made names at South African clubs Polokwane City, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Warriors mentor had the luxury of starting legendary Knowledge Musona on the bench with preference given to his captain and younger brother Walter.

In the opposite camp, Diamonds, who are also called the Gem Boys, unleashed a strong starting XI of Biggy Temera between the sticks, Fortune Binzi and Charles Teguru in attack.

Billiat, whose club football has taken him to Ajax Cape Town, Sundowns, Chiefs and Zimbabwe’s Yadah FC, scored with a powerful shot to put Scottland FC ahead in the 25th minute.

Some 20 minutes later, the former Sundowns star nearly grabbed the second goal with a header after Walter Musona’s delivery, but the effort flew off target to wrap up the opening half.

Five minutes after resumption, Billiat proved his has sharp scoring feet as he cushioned the lead for the defending champions with a clinical finish in the 50th minute.

Three minutes after replacing fellow midfielder Mthokosizi Msebe, 2024 Soccer Star of the Year nominee Kingsley Mureremba dashed hopes of of Diamonds comeback by scoring the third insurance goal on the half-hour mark.

In other Castle Lager PSL matches played on Thursday, Bulawayo Chiefs FC lost 2-0 to FC Dynamos, Herentals beat Agama FC 3-0.
