Highlanders FC frustrated Scottland FC to a goalless draw in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match on Monday.

The result at Rufaro Stadium in Harare extended the winless run for coach Benjani Mwaruwari-led Highlanders FC to six straight Castle Lager PSL games.

On the other hand, the dropped points undermined the defending champions’ push for a top spot.

Midfielder Abubakar Moffat came so mightily close to giving the hosts the lead but his effort rattled the post instead of the net in the 75th minute.

All signs that there would be no breakthrough during the proceedings were evident when Khama Billiat was substituted for Tymon Machope with eight minutes remaining on the clock.

Scottland FC, the holders, have now drawn twice in six games with the rest being wins, a wasted opportunity to close the gap on current leaders CAPS United.

Highlanders and Scottland were both unbeaten after five matches going into this third-ever league meeting between the sides. In last season’s matches, Scottland won 2-1 at Rufaro. Scottland were seeking a fourth successive win while Boss wanted to register a first win.

As has been the case for the better of this season, Scottland coach Norman Mapeza dropped Knowledge Musona to the bench preferring to start his younger brother and captain Walter Musona alongside Billiat.

In the opposite camp, all eyes were on Bosso coach Mwaruwari, who has not hidden his frustrations with not only his team’s poor finishing but also a lack of support from management.

Benjani’s charges went into Monday’s game on the back of three straight goalless draws.
