Zimbabwe hunts for coach, Mosimane recommended

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) advertised the country’s senior national football team coaching post on Monday, amid recommendations that Pitso Mosimane could be the perfect fit for the job.

The post fell vacant after the association lost its patience with Michael Nees leading to the termination of his contract last week. Under the German’s reign, the Warriors—boosting riches of talent and experience such as Marshall Munetsi, Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona—posted two wins in 14 games in all competitions.

Such a poor record set the alarm bells ringing considering that Zimbabwe are heading to Morocco for an even more challenging Africa Cup of Nations finals this December.

With Mosimane available on the market, former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Alois Bunjira has vouched for the ex-Bafana Bafana handler to fill the void created by the German’s exit.

The celebrated South African coach has never hidden his ambition to manage a senior national football team provided it is the right project that fits his ambitions.

The three-time CAF Champions League winner has been club-less since parting ways with Iranian giants Esteghlal FC over unpaid wages in January 2025.

Why Alois Bunjira believes Mosimane is Zimbabwe’s answer

Now, Bunjira believes ZIFA must jump at the opportunity to bring on board the former Al Ahly manager, whose resume is impeccable in South Africa and beyond.

“If we decide to go for a foreign coach, I would choose Pitso Mosimane. He has a proven track record of success and is highly qualified. He knows many of our players, and for me, Pitso is the best,” Bunjira wrote on his social media page.

The ex-Bidvest Wits FC forward also suggested other possible candidates for the Warriors hot seat, including Norman Mapeza and Kaitano Tembo who served as a deputy for Nees.

The job advert says the association wants a tactician with a minimum qualification of either a CAF Pro-Licence or UEFA Pro-Licence, papers that the celebrated PSL mentor possesses.

However, there are genuine questions on whether ZIFA has the financial muscle to meet the pay demands of Mosimane. Social media reports claim Nees was earning $10,000 monthly. Pan-African Football was unable to verify the figure with ZIFA.
