Faced with threats of a match boycott, Zimbabwe’s giant side FC Dynamos have pleaded with their fans to patronize Sunday’s match against Caps United. The fans are unhappy with DeMbare’s decline in form, having gone seven games on the trot without a win in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).

In a statement, DeMbare said they need the supporters to fill up Rufaro Stadium during the Harare Derby and motivate the record 22-PSL winners.

“One of the biggest matches we are set to play this season, we need you, maDembare. Our strength lies in the Vietnam support,” the statement reads.

However, Dynamos FC Supporters Association Harare Chapter insists the DeMbare fans will shun the match.

“We are boycotting the home matches due to dissatisfaction with the executive, and this is driven by various factors such as poor decision-making, lack of transparency, financial mismanagement, unfair treatment of players or staff as well as failure to address fan concerns,” reads the supporters’ statement.

“As supporters, we are boycotting to express discontent, demand change and this will put pressure on the executive to address issues.

Furthermore, we are boycotting due to poor results. There is disappointment with team performance, lack of progress or improvement, perceived incompetence of coaches or management as well as frustration with player selection or tactics.”

In another flyer posted on Facebook, another section of the fans called on the Dynamos supporters to gather at Joy Centre Highfields opposite Gwanzura Stadium this Sunday.”

The protests come days after FC Dynamos fired coach Lloyd Chigowe and replaced him with Saul Chaminuka to save the team from relegation.

Chaminuka takes while Dynamos lie third from the bottom of the Castle Lager PSL’s log table with one win from 11 matches, comprising five draws and five losses. The struggling DeMbare have scored two goals (including an own goal) and conceded seven.
