Highlanders FC coach Kelvin Kaindu insists FC Platinum remains the team to beat in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League despite their slow start to the season.

Kaindu said this as Highlanders FC prepare to face former champions FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

He said FC Platinum might have started the season on a low, but they cannot be underrated.

“This is the team that we failed to beat last season. They beat us both at home and away,” Kaindu told the media in Zimbabwe.

“Looking at the league this season, they haven’t started very well in terms of the pedigree they have, but despite the number of draws, they remain unbeaten, and that shows they may get the rhythm anytime. We are also aware that they have been consistent—they are not scoring that much, but also they are not conceding much.”

“They don’t normally change what they do. They believe in philosophy. They are a team that wants to play from the back and also use their midfield, which is very strong.”

He also touted improvements Highlanders FC are making as the season progresses.

“We have seen a lot of improvements. Our pre-season was not very good, so we wanted to use the few games to manage the team and also condition them, and we are seeing the results,” Kaindu added.

Highlanders stand a chance to push higher up the table as they sit in fourth place, five steps behind leaders MOWS FC, and three points away from the eighth-placed FC Platinum.
