Zimbabwe's Simba Bhora FC coach Joel Luphahla has said he opted for pre-season training in South Africa to prepare the team for the CAF Champions League participation.

He said while giving an update on how his Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions are shaping up during the pre-season in South Africa’s Polokwane.

“We are happy with the progress of our players. The pre-season is going well. Of course, as coaches we cannot be happy as we want the players to be perfect,” he said.

“It has been three weeks of pre-season and this is our second week in Polokwane. The boys are doing well, and gelling with the new guys. By the end of this week, we will reach our target. Everybody who is supposed to be here is here. We thank the management for what they have. It is not easy, there is money involved.”

The former Highlanders FC assistant handler said his players and officials need the exposure that comes with traveling, adding that such experience would prove handy in the continental league.

Luphahla said: “It is important that we prepare outside Zimbabwe as we will play in the Champions League so this experience is going to help the administrators, coaches, and players when we travel to play outside Zimbabwe on how to maneuver in the CAF Champions League.”

The former winger replaced Tonderayi Ndirayi who parted ways with the defending champions to pick a new job with newly-promoted Scottland FC.
