Zimbabwe PSL: Simba Bhora played under pressure—Luphahla

Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Simba Bhora’s coach Joel Luphahla has commented on their goalless draw against Scottland FC on Saturday.

The former Warriors winger said his team played under pressure against the star-studded opponents. The rookies’ squad comprises the likes of Khama Billiat, Knowledge and Walter Musona.

“I am proud of the boys. I know we were playing at home. We are expected to win and we are the defending champions,” Luphahla said.

“We are on top of the log table so that pressure can sometimes get into the boys, but you can see the way they are playing. They were relaxed. Which is good. Scottland are a good side. They have a good coach so to get a point is fair.”

“In the first half, they had better chances and in the second half, we had good chances. It could have gone either way. I am happy to get a point. We have another day to fight and another game to fight.”

The draw worked to the advantage of Bhora, who still lead the 16-member log table while holding a two-point cushion over second-placed Scottland. Luphahla’s team will represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Champions League next weekend when they begin their first qualifying round fixture against Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs. Simba Bhora will host the first leg on September 21 in Botswana.
