Zimbabwe’s Dynamos FC has announced that it will not participate in the 2025-2026 CAF Confederation Cup, citing a lack of capacity to compete at the continental level.
The Harare-based side confirmed their position via a statement released on Friday, saying it does not feel fully prepared to compete at the continental level this year.
"While it has been a painstaking decision, we believe it is in the best interest of the team and everyone associated with Dynamos to focus on strengthening its readiness for future competitions and ensure we would not participate in such tournaments just to make up numbers,” the statement reads.
"We look forward to future opportunities to represent our country with honor and pride and we pledge to return to the continental stage even stronger."
Fondly called DeMbare, Dynamos are struggling this season, picking up just ten points from fourteen Castle Lager Premier League games while lying third from bottom. The club recently fired coach Lloyd Chigowe and replaced him with Saul Chaminuka to save the team from a potential relegation fight.
Dynamos have a strong record in continental football, they reached the African Cup of Club Champions, a forerunner of the CAF Champions League in 1998 then the semifinal in 1998. The struggling Harare outfit has produced Zimbabwe’s finest players such as Agent Sawu, Moses Chunga, Vitalis Takawira, and George Shaya.
