Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum say they are addressing reports that some of their players might have been involved in match-fixing during a recent Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match.
Unconfirmed reports in Zimbabwe suggest that the game in question was against Scottland FC at Mandava Stadium last Saturday when Platinum lost 5-2. However, in a statement, the former Castle PSL champions did not specifically mention the game in question.
“FC Platinum is aware of recent reports regarding its senior team players as well as unsubstantiated allegations made against them,” the statement reads.
“FC Platinum operates with integrity and adheres strictly to all relevant laws, regulations and ethical standards. We view these allegations with the seriousness they deserve and are currently reviewing all options available to address this matter appropriately.
“We urge the public and the media to refrain from spreading unverified information that can cause unwarranted reputational damage.”
In a post-match interview last Saturday, Platinum coach Norman Mapeza seemed surprised with the heavy defeat, saying it was the first that his team had conceded five goals in a single match.
Scottland won the game courtesy of Tymon Machope’s brace to go within one point of leaders and defending champions, Simba Bhora, on the log table.
