Zimbabwe’s Caps United have unveiled Ian Bakala as their new head coach, a U-turn from their announcement that they had hired the Zambian as a deputy coach.

A statement from Caps United states that Bakala will lead the club, fondly known as Makepekepe, with Alexio Sigion as his deputy. Caps United president Farai Jere announced on Tuesday, May 6, that they would appoint a new coach to be deputised by Bakala following the promotion of previous handler Lloyd Chitembwe to the role of technical director.

Jere attributed the reshuffle to poor results in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) after collecting just eight points from ten games.

“We are changing our current technical setup. We will have a new technical setup that will start this weekend. Ian Bakala will be the assistant coach in the new technical team. A new head coach will be announced on Thursday,” he told the media.

He described the Harare-based team’s former midfielder Bakala as a rising coach who won the league twice in his homeland of Zambia with Lusaka Dynamos.

Makepekepe are placed fourth from the bottom of the 18-member Castle Lager Premier League, three points away from basement side Triangle United.
