Uganda Cup semis set as heavyweights collide in two-legged showdowns

The race for the Stanbic Uganda Cup crown has reached a decisive stage following the semifinal draw held earlier today at Umoja House.

Four teams remain in contention, with intriguing fixtures lined up as URA FC are drawn against SC Villa, while Kitara FC will square off with holders Vipers SC.

The ties will be contested over two legs, with Kitara hosting Vipers in their opening encounter, as SC Villa make the trip to face URA in the first leg.

These initial fixtures are scheduled to take place between May 1 and 3, with the decisive return legs set for May 15 to 17, 2026.

Progression to the final will be determined by aggregate score across both matches. In the event of a tie, the away goals rule will come into play, and if teams remain inseparable, the contest will be settled via a penalty shootout without extra time.

Each semifinalist earned their place through determined performances in the previous rounds.

Defending Uganda Cup champions Vipers face off against record champions

Vipers edged past NEC FC on penalties, URA FC eliminated KCCA FC in a shootout, SC Villa overcame Happy Boys Kagaba, while Kitara FC saw off Express FC.

Vipers enter the semifinals as defending champions, having defeated KCCA FC 2-0 in last year’s final at FUFA Stadium Kadiba.

Historically, SC Villa stand as the most decorated side in the competition with nine titles, followed by Vipers with four and URA with three, while Kitara have lifted the trophy once.

First played in 1971, the Stanbic Uganda Cup remains the oldest knockout tournament in Ugandan football, continuing to deliver high-stakes drama deep into its latter stages.
