Bundesliga: Four Africans make Team of the Year shortlist

Four Africans have been nominated for the 2025/26 Bundesliga’s Team of the Year. The German top flight confirmed the nomination of 27 players who excelled during the current league season, with four Africans included on the list.

The Bundesliga revealed that Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Ibrahim Maza (Bayer Leverkusen), Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig), and Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund) have been nominated for the Team of the Season.

Leverkusen teammates in the running for Bundesliga honor

Burkina Faso international Tapsoba had a brilliant league season, scoring more goals than ever before. The 27-year-old centre-back managed to score five goals, adding to his exceptional campaign.

Tapsoba’s club teammate Ibrahim Maza settled well at his new side after his stint at Hertha Berlin last season. The Algerian attacker won the Rookie of the Month accolade in the Bundesliga and scored three goals while providing another three in the league.

Diomande is now one of the top talents in European football. The 19-year-old Ivorian is making headlines in Germany for his outstanding performances week in and week out. In his debut season with RB Leipzig, he has bagged eleven goals and six assists. Diomande is also expected to shine at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Ivory Coast.

Guinea striker Guirassy is also nominated yet again after reaching double-figure goals for the fourth season running in the competition. The tall forward managed to score thirteen goals, making him the fourth-highest scorer in the league.

Fans are allowed to vote for their Team of the Year from among the 27 listed players.
