AmaZulu dealt major blow as Radebe is ruled out of Pirates showdown

AmaZulu FC’s aspirations for a top-three finish have hit a significant speed bump, with key defender Nkosikhona Radebe officially ruled out of Saturday’s high-stakes Betway Premiership encounter against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Amstel Arena.

The versatile right-back has been a cornerstone of Arthur Zwane’s tactical setup this season, helping steady the ship as Usuthu mounts a serious challenge for CAF inter-club qualification.

Currently sitting fourth on the log with 39 points from 24 outings, the KwaZulu-Natal outfit finds themselves in a heated three-way tussle with Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United for that coveted third spot.

While Chiefs hold a six-point cushion in third, AmaZulu know that a positive result in Soweto is non-negotiable if they are to keep their continental dreams alive heading into the final stretch of the 2025/26 campaign.

SUSPENSION WOES FOR ARTHUR ZWANE AHEAD OF PIRATES TIE

The absence of Radebe, who is serving the first of a two-match ban following a straight red card against Siwelele FC, leaves a massive void in the backline. With 29 appearances across all competitions this term, Radebe’s defensive discipline and occasional attacking contributions—including a goal and two assists—will be sorely missed against a rampant Pirates attack.

However, the pressure isn’t only on the visitors. Orlando Pirates enter the clash with their own heavy burden; trailing Mamelodi Sundowns by a single point, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men are desperate to seize the top spot, even with Masandawana holding a game in hand.

It is a collision of two desperate sides: one hunting for the summit, the other for a historic top-three finish.

LEAGUE-WIDE DISCIPLINARY SETBACKS

AmaZulu aren’t the only side grappling with disciplinary issues this weekend.

Stellenbosch FC will have to navigate their Friday night fixture against Sekhukhune United at Athlone Stadium without the services of striker Wonderboy Makhubu. The forward remains sidelined following his dismissal against Chippa United on March 21, leaving Stellies to hunt for maximum points without their primary attacking outlet.
