CAF Champions League: Espérance coach Beaumelle banks on belief despite deficit

Espérance Sportive de Tunis head coach Patrice Beaumelle has rallied his players to embrace belief and resilience as they prepare for a decisive CAF Champions League semifinal return leg clash against Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow, Saturday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The Tunisian giants head into the encounter trailing after a narrow 0-1 first-leg home defeat to Sundowns, leaving the tie delicately poised with everything still to play for in the return leg.

Despite the setback, Beaumelle remains confident his side can overturn the deficit, drawing inspiration from their recent historic victory over Al Ahly in Cairo.

“Everything is possible. Espérance had never beaten Al Ahly in Cairo, but a few weeks ago we went there, scored three goals and won,” Beaumelle said.

The French tactician stressed the need for efficiency in front of goal, especially against a disciplined Sundowns side known for controlling games and punishing mistakes.

“Now, we must be efficient against Mamelodi Sundowns tomorrow. We have to believe in ourselves here, just like we did in Cairo,” he added.
