Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Pedro Gonçalves has blown his own trumpet to celebrate a milestone with the Tanzania Mainland Premier League side.
The Portuguese has clocked five months with the Dar es Salaam football powerhouse since he replaced Frenchman Romain Folz.

After watching Yanya terrorise Mbeya City FC into submission with a 6-0 victory on Thursday, Gonçalves did not wait for others to acknowledge his feat with the league holders.
“30 games, 28 unbeaten,” the former Angola national team coach wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.
“This is the milestone we reached yesterday [Thursday] with Yanga. It reflects the solidity and consistency of our journey, a result of great dedication and daily hard work. We are building something special at this club: first place, best attack, and best defence.
“With 22 wins and 6 draws, we continue to show a strong identity and great collective commitment, having faltered only at two highly demanding venues in the Champions League. This path gives us confidence for what lies ahead, with maximum ambition to achieve our goals.
Gonçalves is thriving on the job while other top coaches tried and failed. With managing Wanachi, it is not only about winning games, but doing so with flair and flamboyance. The job is also about balancing interests of stakeholders, including fans.
Tanzania Mainland Premier League milestones so far
Therefore, it makes sense that the former Angola mentor is patting himself on the back. He knows the task at hand is not easy.
“A special thank you to our fans. In every stadium, your voice and constant support are our fuel. You play alongside us. Onwards together and aiming for more,” added the coach.
The Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions hired Gonçalves following their failure to qualify for the CAF Champions’ League group stages at the end of October 2025.
The coach was tasked with helping Yanga challenge for trophies on all fronts, starting with defending their Premier League title for the fifth season in a row.
To his credit, the 50-year-old has delivered the desired goods. His team remains undefeated in domestic competitions this season. Yanga SC have already won Tanzania’s Community Shield and the CRDB Bank Federation Cup in this campaign.
