Kenya national team midfielder Zech Obiero has officially bagged the EFL League Two Goal of the Month award for his absolute peach of a curler against Oldham Athletic.
A late winner and a trophy to show for it—Obiero is proving exactly why he’s one to watch on the international stage. A statement from the club said: “Tranmere Rovers midfielder Zech Obiero is the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month winner for March.

Obiero beat off competition from Fleetwood Town’s Mark Helm, Newport County’s Bobby Kamwa and Crewe Alexandra’s Reece Hutchinson.
“Obiero knew he was potentially running down a blind alley to the corner flag as he collected a pass. In an instant, he halted his run, swivelled and sent a delightful curler into the far corner.”
After winning the award, he said: “Thank you to all the Tranmere fans who voted for me to win this award, it means a lot.
“It’s been a tough few months for us, but we’re fully focused on doing what we need to do in the last four games to keep the Club in the division.”
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “There was so much to like about Zech Obiero’s goal against Oldham.
“Shaped as if he was running away from goal, a smart Cruyff turn bought him a yard and the curling finish into the top corner was sublime.”
The winners of the Sky Bet EFL Goals of the Month were selected by a panel of experts and a public vote. The panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL experts Don Goodman and David Prutton.
Obiero is a youth product of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth academy, and joined Leyton Orient’s academy at the age of 14. He signed a two-and-a-half-year professional contract with Orient in February 2022.
He had appeared as an unused substitute in the EFL Cup tie with Queens Park Rangers on August 11, 2021. He made his senior debut for Orient in the League Two match at Crawley Town on 30 April 2022, which Orient won 2-0.
Obiero had managed two caps for Kenya and scored one goal under coach Benni McCarthy. He is among the players Kenya will rely on when they host 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
