Barker admits Namungo FC will not be ‘a walk in the park’

Simba head coach Steve Barker has praised their opponents Namungo FC as the two sides prepare to face off in a Mainland Premier League fixture at Majaliwa Stadium on Sunday.

The Msimbazi Reds will be aiming to cut Young Africans lead at the top to five points if they secure victory. Yanga have cemented their lead at the summit, and with third-placed Azam breathing behind Simba, the game against Namunfo is very important.

Ahead of the game, the South African coach believes they have what it takes to run away with maximum points, but remained cautious that Namungo will not be an easy prey for his side.

‘Namungo is a very good team’

“We have prepared enough and we are ready to play against Namungo,” Barker told Pan-Africa Football. “We know it is not going to be an easy game.

“Our aim is to get three points from the game, it will not be a walk in the park but we are definitely prepared to win the points, which will be very important in our position on the table.”

Simba player Anthony Mligo said: “We believe we are going to face a difficult game against a difficult opponent. Namungo is a very good team, with quality players, and a good coach.

“We will go into the game with one thing in mind, we want to win, and get three points, nothing else. We want to give our fans something to celebrate about, and we are more than ready to face Namungo.”

Young Africans not interested

Meanwhile, Yanga’s Information Officer, Ally Kamwe, has denied reports circulating on social media claiming the club has plans to sign Simba player Seleman Mwalimu.

Kamwe said Yanga’s leadership has not held any talks with the club or anyone about needing the player, calling the reports untrue.

“Yanga’s leadership has not held any talks with the club or anyone about needing the player Seleman Mwalimu. These are untrue reports,” said Kamwe.

Simba are currently lying second with 39 points, while Namungo are placed 10th with 22 points from 18 matches.
