Elie Mpanzu’s second half strike confirmed three points for the Reds, who endured a firm challenge from their hosts at the Majaliwa Stadium close to the country’s eastern coast.
But a strong start from the visitors was enough to hold off their midtable hosts. Simba’s West African stars helped them to a 2-0 lead in the opening twenty-five minutes with Senegalese winger Libasse Gueye opening the scoring before Ivorian attacker Anicet Oura doubled the lead.

Former Young Africans and Horoya AC attacker Heritier Makambo pulled a goal back for the hosts before halftime, and Namungo did create some good opportunities in the second half.
However, a quick team combination set up Makambo’s Congolese compatriot, Mpanzu, for a powerful strike in the 74th minute to confirm victory for the Reds.
They remain five points back of title holders Young Africans ahead of their famous derby, the Kariakoo Derby, on May 3 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
