Allsvenskan: Manneh stars in Mjällby win, Doumbia scores first goal with Häcken

Abdoulie Manneh helped Mjällby earn their first victory of the 2026 Allsvenskan season while another ASEC Mimosas graduate, Abdoulaye Doumbia, continued his strong start to life in Sweden’s top flight over the weekend.

Manneh’s outstanding 2025 season helped lead Mjällby to a shock title conquest last season and after a difficult start to the ongoing campaign, the Gambian was influential in a 3-0 victory over Brommapojkarna.

The 21-year-old, who is breaking into the Gambia national team setup, assisted the opening goal on Saturday when Ludwig Thorell fired in from distance to give the hosts an early lead.

Soon after Jacob Bergstrom doubled the lead close to the half hour mark, it was Manneh who decided to do the scoring himself five minutes later. After the ball was cleared to the edge of the Brommapojkarna penalty area in the 33rd minute, he received a pass and took a smooth first touch before firing in off the post.

The goal contributions were the first of the current campaign for Manneh, who will look to help his club recover after defeats in their opening two league matches.

On Sunday, Ivorian teenager Doumbia opened his account in European football in spectacular fashion with a long-distance volley for Häcken.

Doumbia, who joined the large legion of former ASEC Mimosas youth graduates who have made their way to Sweden over the years, looped his volley over the goalkeeper early in the second half following a short corner kick.

A deep-lying midfielder, the 18-year-old has instantly established himself as a regular sight in his club’s starting XI since joining from the famous Ivorian club. He has now started all three league matches for Häcken, who sit second on the league table through three rounds.
