The Betway Premiership relegation dogfight took a dramatic turn on Sunday as Magesi FC produced a stunning offensive display to climb out of the drop zone, while TS Galaxy’s catastrophic run of form reached a ten-game tipping point.
At a rain-soaked Seshego Stadium, Magesi FC finally shed their status as table-proppers with a ruthless 5-2 dismantling of Durban City FC. The victory marks a massive psychological breakthrough for the Limpopo-based outfit, who jumped two places to 14th in the standings.
The match exploded into life with five goals in the opening 30 minutes. Mcedi Vandala set the tone in the 9th minute, beating veteran keeper Darren Keet with a clinical strike. Although Jean Lwamba equalised for the visitors just three minutes later, Magesi’s response was relentless.
Tshepo Mashigo (14’) and Lehlogonolo Luthuli (19’)—the latter finishing a fine delivery from Orlando Pirates loanee Sifiso Luthuli—gave the hosts a cushion. Lwamba’s second goal in the 27th minute briefly threatened a comeback, but Magesi’s tactical discipline in the second half ensured no collapse.
Kgotahtso Mariba hammered home a fourth in the 65th minute before Vandala completed his brace late on, condemning Nedbank Cup finalists Durban City to their third straight league defeat.

Earlier at Mbombela Stadium, the atmosphere turned sombre for TS Galaxy as they suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, falling 1-0 to a surging Richards Bay FC.
The “Natal Rich Boyz” continued their impressive resurgence, building on their recent draw against Orlando Pirates. The decisive moment arrived two minutes before the interval when Sanele Barns expertly converted a Thulani Gumede cross.
The Tale of Two Trajectories:
Richards Bay: Now unbeaten in three and sitting 10th, the dream of an MTN8 spot is very much alive for the visitors.
TS Galaxy: For Adnan Beganovic’s men, the statistics are grim. They haven’t tasted victory in 10 league outings—a run featuring nine defeats.
While the Rockets sit 12th, they are now only six points clear of the relegation cut-off currently occupied by Orbit College. With five games remaining and a Nedbank Cup final on the horizon, Galaxy faces a gruelling balancing act to ensure their top-flight status remains intact for next season.
